The new Flexiteek colors are cooler than real teak http://www.flexiteek.com/the-new-flexiteek-colors-are-cooler-than-real-teak/ http://www.flexiteek.com/the-new-flexiteek-colors-are-cooler-than-real-teak/#comments Wed, 24 Oct 2012 13:46:02 +0000 Webmaster http://www.flexiteek.com/?p=1032 Our new colors (Bleached, Weathered, Off-White) are cooler and cool four minutes faster than real teak. Flexiteek Teak is approximately the same ready state temperature as real teak but cooled five minutes faster and about two minutes faster than another synthetic teak brand.

This is a noticeable difference in warmer climates.

Materials Technology Ltd. was commissioned by Flexiteek to do thermal testing of a range of Flexiteek products in comparison with new and aged natural teak and a synthetic teak quality brand (will be mentioned as “Other Brand” in this article).

The results are summarized in the table below.

Material Steady state
temperature
Cooling time from steady state to ambient (s)*
Other Brand 145.4°F / 63°C 1261
Flexiteek Teak 144.5°F / 62.5°C 1050
Flexiteek Weathered 141.8°F / 61°C 1131
Flexiteek Bleached 136.4°F / 58°C 1121
Flexiteek Carbon 154.4°F / 68°C 1106
Flexiteek Off-White 136.4°F / 58°C 975
Natural teak new 143.6°F / 62°C 1342
Natural teak aged 143.6°F / 62°C 1371

* taken as the time to cool from steady state to below 78.8°F / 26°C

Plastic as a teak substitute for boat decking http://www.flexiteek.com/plastic-as-a-teak-substitute-for-boat-decking/ http://www.flexiteek.com/plastic-as-a-teak-substitute-for-boat-decking/#comments Tue, 31 Jan 2012 11:11:39 +0000 Webmaster http://www.flexiteek.com/?p=510 Quote from the early days of Flexiteek news:

A greener and cheaper alternative to teak decking was unveiled at the Southhampton Boat Show by Golden Arrow Marine. Flexiteek is a strip plank made out of recycled plastic, but has a similar look to the real thing. The plastic used is fire–resistant to Class 0 standards, has a solid colour through its depth and can be sanded just like a teak deck. It bends readily over bumps and hollows, and apparently can be curved to follow deck contours by being heated, the new shape remaining after cooling. The product`s laid weight is less than an equivalent expanse of teak. In a quick test, we found Flexiteek survived a dousing in hydraulic oil that would have ruined a wooden teak deck. It also took a sanding with no trouble, the new surface keeping its grainy appearance. It is not as vibrant as teak when new, and it will be interesting to see how well it survives long–term ultra–violet exposure. But at £95 m2, one–third the price of teak equivalents, it is worthy of consideration. Motor Boats Monthly, November issue-2000

With the Flexiteek boat flooring products on the market for 12 years  we know that Flexiteek lasts long-term ultra-violet exposure and extreme heat / cold conditions. Our welded system without adhesives gives our products the longest life-span.
