    A:

You can prepare a small area alone like areas in the cockpit of a sailboat. On a large deck three persons should work together.

  • Q: Why do different surfaces (wood, GRP, steel) require different products?

    A:

The composition of the materials in the panels and the surface underneath needs to be strong and waterproof. Different bonding products are necessary for steel, GRP, wood.

  • Q: Where do I buy the necessary tools?

    A:

Most tools are available at a well stocked chandler or a DIY a interior center.

  • Q: What changes have you done to your work process compared to the ordinary ways of decking with wood?

    A:

Our method with new panels/pre made mats of PVC has these advantages: Compared to the old method with panels of teak Expensive paper cutter or Stanleyknife is fine Panels are fit together Predetermined distance between panels Much less use of caulking, when using mats Easier to do fittings, bends, corners of the deck Panels can be swept and they are flexible.

Simplifying this process was important to us. With pre made mats we have made a complicated craft into an easy operation.DIY. Using a saw on panels of teak is timeconsuming and needs practice No screws, few clamps, much faster method You do not need to be a professional boatbuilder! Saves time and expenses Strips of wood are not flexible and needs adjustment. More complicated process.

  • Q: Is cutting the Flexiteek easy, and why do I use less quantities of caulking with this system from Flexiteek?

    A:

Yes, with a sharp Stanley knife and extra blades. You need the steel ruler to support the cutting of the panels. Ordinary panels of wood has to be cut with a saw. Our panels come ready made with a predetermined distance to the next panel. You only fill small quantities of caulking at the top between two panels. You will not need screws to hold the panels together. You do not need clamps. You fit the panels together. However you must put caulking around corners, next to fittings, more around actual bends of the panel.

  • Q: Is the temperature important during the work process?

    A:

Yes, a constant indoor temperature is perfect, not under + 15°C or over + 25°C. A high constant temperature is important in order to reduce the memory in the material/resin glue.

  • Q: How do I construct a proper working cover outdoor in the marina/yard over the working area?

    A:

Sailboats – use the mast, pooles, rope and empty containers filled with water. If you work in a cold period around +5 to 10°C, one or two big heaters (no fan) can increase the working temperature under the cover and speed up the drying time. Powerboats – Use the flybridge or the navigation mast to construct a similar structure above.
