Teak decking is getting costly and more pertinently for the futures of our forests. There are environmental consideration to take into account; how eco–friendly is the lovely bit of timber you are walking on?
Flexiteek is a synthetic alternative that could revolutionize decking. Uniquely it has a grain that can be sanded and caulking that brings out the sweep of the planking. Light heat will persuade the stripe to follow the deck line.
Major boatbuilders are enthusiastic as it takes a quarter of the time to fit and comes in long lenghts straight off a reel. Cutting and trimming requires Stanley knife or snippers. Butt joints can be placed anywhere and the material can be stuck to glass fiber, steel and aluminium. As a flooring for RIBS, it would seem ideal while its sandability makes it as close to the "real thing" as possible. Non–slip, non–greying, highly convincing and waterproof.
Flexiteek is advertised as the decking material of the 21st century.
