  • Q: Can you explain the various expressions you use in your two guides for laying Flexiteek?

    A:

    Expressions used are:

Adhesive – adhesive bond the panels to the deck. The adhesive bond is very strong, elastic and waterproof. The deck does not have to be drilled for screws or bolts, since the adhesive is applied to the whole surface of the deck.

Caulking – caulking is the actual process of bonding the panels together with a black elastic material. In the actual process of using primer and later caulking, direct sunlight must not shine upon the work in progress.

King plank – a wide panel of 125 mm. Usually you have to cut the centre board or King plank in order to create the correct fitting with the other panels. It is recommended to produce a paper template for such King planks and margin boards, before actually cutting the King plank.

Curing – the new deck from Flexiteek is fully cured when the deck can be cleaned.

Drying time – only when everything is dry after 2 to 3 days can you apply pressure and weight to the deck.

Containers as weights – empty containers 3 or 4 l. Fill these with water, and seal the container.

Foam – filler made of foam. Often used with surfaces of steel or aluminium.

Margin boards – boards at the outer edge of for example the hatch/deck.

Pot time – the time fluid can stay mixed with resin in a pot. Ready to be used.

  • Q: Does the caulking come in different colours?

    A:

Our Flexiteek caulking can be either white (ebony) or black in colour. Our hard or soft caulking is either used to weld two straight strips together or used as a fixed bond between two strips in our production process.

When we apply margin boards to a panel we use caulking and weld it by hand to a larger panel.

  • Q: Does the decking come with any guarantee?

    A:

Flexiteek comes with a 5 year guarantee for the actual material.

  • Q: How long can I store the Flexiteek panels before doing the actual work on the boat?

    A:

You should apply it to the boat within 2-3 months. Store the panels flat.

  • Q: Can you bend the panels made from Flexiteek?

    A:

Yes, you may use hot air from a hairdryer to soften the panels and create the bend.

  • Q: Do the panels tolerate ice/snow and strong heat over the years?

    A:

Yes, we have tested the panels with several scientific institutions. Be aware however that any material with high density and dark color will absorb heat in strong sun light. This may necessitate the use of deck shoes on a hot summer day.

  • Q: What are the panels made of?

    A:

The panels are partly made from PVC, with chalk, colour pigment in a patented process and mixture. The actual panels have been welded together with integral caulking by our special high frequency machine or by hand in our production plant in Fagersta, Sweden.
