Flexiteek Exceed 42,000 Trees in Support of World Land Trust
Flexiteek International have announced they have exceeded 42,000 trees planted in support of their charity partner World Land Trust. The milestone was announced in early August. It represents the planting of native species of trees over an area equivalent to 21 football pitches at the various locations they support.
Flexiteek have been working with World Land Trust since 2020. Since Flexiteek has donated in excess of £200,000 to the protection of endangered habitats in South America and Asia. The collaboration was started to help combat the damage caused by global deforestation, particularly due to the use of endangered Teak. By supporting the World Land Trust’s pioneering efforts to acquire land and manage future forests, this initiative has made a significant impact. It has helped safeguard the habitats of some of the world’s most endangered species, including those in Brazil, India, and Armenia.
Tomas Gustafsson, CEO of Flexiteek International AB, commented, “Our work supporting World Land trust over the last four years has helped to protect a huge area of endangered land and many endangered species. We would like to thank our global distributor network who work tirelessly fitting Flexiteek decks all over the world. Without their commitment and dedication we would not be able to make such a huge contribution to World Land Trust.”
Flexiteek actively support the following global projects:
The Atlantic forest, in Brazil, has only 7% of its original coverage remaining due to centuries of deforestation. Since 2006, WLT has partnered with REGUA to plant over 634,000 trees from 180 native tree species, reconnecting fragmented forest areas, improving survival chances for endangered species. Such as the Endangered Southern Woolly Spider Monkey, with just 1,300 individuals remaining.
In India, The D’ering-Dibru Saikhowa Elephant Corridor enables safe passage for animals. Such as the Endangered Asian Elephant, with fewer than 50,000 in the wild and the Vulnerable Indian Leopard. Over the last 16 years, more than 3,000 leopards were poached in India alone. These animals feel the negative effects of habitat loss more than other species due to their reliance on trees for climbing and cover.
The Caucasus Wildlife Refuge in Armenia, one of the top 35 biodiverse regions globally, is one of the newest areas of focus. Tree planting here will restore a corridor for 44 mammal species, creating a thriving habitat for hunting, breeding, and resting. This is crucial for species like the Endangered Egyptian Vulture, which has seen a 50-79% population decline over three generations.
Flexiteek donate £5 for every 10sqm of Flexiteek sold.
