The decidedly Nordic nameboard S\u00f8rvind<\/em> graces the latest launch from Southern Wind Shipyard<\/a>. It\u2019s suitable, too. In her owner\u2019s words, he wanted \u201ca high-performance bluewater yacht for fast and comfortable sailing that embodies a Nordic Cool spirit.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

S\u00f8rvind<\/em> is the fifth hull in the shipyard\u2019s SW105 series, which includes recent deliveries like Taniwha<\/a>.<\/em> The team behind the series includes Nauta Design for styling and interiors, and Farr Yacht Design for naval architecture. Notably, too, this new sailing superyacht features the work of Studio Hermanides inside. Nauta Design and Studio Hermanides collaborated on yet another Southern Wind yacht, Seatius<\/a><\/em>. Showing off a similarly chic Nordic look, Seatius<\/em> subsequently won a few design awards.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The d\u00e9cor scheme was important for the owner\u2019s personal enjoyment, but also for the charter guests he intends to cruise aboard S\u00f8rvind<\/em>. It complements a layout where the master suite sits forward and three guest staterooms are amidships. This is a customary layout for Southern Wind clients. S\u00f8rvind<\/em> is a raised-saloon design, therefore with a nice amount of light coming inside. Finally, the crew area sits aft, accommodating six hands in three cabins. Although you may not notice it at first, the coachroof is slightly softer in looks than other raised-saloon SW105s.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

When S\u00f8rvind <\/em>isn\u2019t under sail, the crew can launch a handful of watertoys for the guests to use. In fact, judging from those toys, the owner and guests will be pretty active. For instance, sea kayaks will be onboard, as will stand-up paddleboards. Windsurfers and even road bikes will go in in the tender garage and special lazarette stowage as well, alongside a 14-foot (4.3-meter) jet tender.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Since the owner is looking forward to sailing, of course, S\u00f8rvind <\/em>should do well especially in lighter winds. Light weight aids that performance. She has a fully carbon fiber hull, deck, and bulkheads. Even deck hardware is titanium to trim pounds. The same is true for the Flexiteek deck material.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The sailing superyacht is remaining in Southern Wind\u2019s Cape Town facility in preparation for sea trials. She\u2019ll then take to the oceans to make her way to the Mediterranean for her maiden voyage.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
