USA Boat Market Trends 2026: What Owners and Builders Need to Know
The USA boat market trends for 2026 point to a period of stability following a year of adjustment. Ownership patterns, material choices, and buyer behaviour continue to evolve.
The U.S. recreational boating market remains one of the largest and most influential in the world. After a period of strong consumer spending in 2024, with total retail marine expenditures exceeding $55 billion. The market shifted gears through 2025. New-boat sales softened as mixed economic conditions and more cautious spending influenced buying decisions across several segments.
That recalibration, however, did not signal a loss of interest in boating itself.
USA Boat Market Trend 2025 : A Resilient Industry
As we head into 2026, the recreational market appears relatively stable, remaining resilient despite softer new-boat sales in 2025. According to the National Marine Manufacturers Association (NMMA), who are the leading trade organisation representing the recreational boating industry in North America. They report the total new powerboat retail sales, which also cover traditional powerboats as well as personal watercraft. This market saw an estimated decline of 8% to 10% in 2025, which is approximately 215,000-225,000 units.
Despite headwinds in new-boat sales, boating activity across the U.S. remained resilient. Over 90% of the retail unit activity being in entry-level categories such as personal watercraft, aluminium fishing boats, and smaller boats. Pre-owned boats represented approximately 80% of total unit sales in 2025. Indicating that extended ownership cycles and refits have become more common. Which reinforces the importance of longevity, condition, and long-term material performance.
Looking Ahead to 2026: Stability in the US Boating Market
Following the clear market adjustment seen in 2025. Industry research suggests that although the uncertainty and softness are expected to continue, there is cautious optimism. NMMA’s third-quarter 2025 survey of member executives indicates a modest improvement in short-term economic outlook. With 40% of their respondents having a positive year outlook.
Industry data suggests that new powerboat sales may hold steady or show modest improvement. Supported by sustained consumer engagement and offerings across a wider range of price points. This just highlights that we are in an environment which is about more thoughtful decision-making and strong investments in materials for their longevity and reduced long-term costs.
As the boat show season begins in the USA, it will provide the industry with a strong indication of the market’s perception for 2026. NMMA estimate that boat shows alone account for up to 30% of annual retail sales. Highlighting just how much boat shows remain a key touchpoint for purchasing decisions. Allowing customers to engage with products as well as learn more about them.

Strengthening Our Presence: The Flexiteek USA Team
As we see the US boating market move into a more stable and value-driven phase, we strengthened our presence in the states with the establishment of Flexiteek USA, based in Lake Park, Florida.
We launched our new facility in early 2025. This facility is a strategic investment designed to support what is one of the largest and most influential markets in the world. Flexiteek is now better positioned to provide hands-on technical support, faster response times, and deeper collaboration with OEM partners, as well as be closer to builders, installers, and owners.
Chad Adams, an experienced marine industry professional with a strong understanding of both the commercial and practical demands of the sector, led our US operation. Under his leadership, the team is focused on expanding Flexiteek’s installer network. As well as strengthen relationships with key US boatbuilders, and ensure consistent standards across projects nationwide.
The Lake Park facility has recently expanded, with additional staff brought on to support growing demand and reinforce Flexiteek’s long-term commitment to the region. This growth reflects increasing adoption of synthetic decking solutions across both new-build and refit markets, particularly as owners place greater emphasis on durability, reduced maintenance, and long-term value.
Looking forward
As the U.S. recreational boating market moves into 2026, the picture is one of measured stability rather than rapid expansion. Activity levels remain strong, with ownership cycles extending, and purchasing decisions are increasingly shaped by long-term value rather than short-term trends. For both owners and builders, this shift places greater emphasis on materials and partners that can be relied upon over time.
Boat shows such as Miami remain a key moment in the annual cycle, offering valuable insight into market confidence while allowing customers to engage directly with products, people, and expertise. These conversations about performance, ageing, and real-world use are becoming just as important as headline innovation.
Flexiteek’s continued investment in product development, alongside the expansion of our Flexiteek USA operation, reflects our commitment to supporting the US market through this next phase. With proven materials like Flexiteek 3, a growing local team, and a long-term presence, we are focused on helping owners and builders make confident, informed choices that stand the test of time.
As the market evolves, the priority is clear. Solutions that perform consistently, reduce ongoing demands, and quietly support life on the water season after season.
